Blog: Tipping Point: Taking Off The spring season blog provides observations and thoughts about the acceptance and national growth of the NP Postgraduate training movement. As Malcolm Gladwell writes: [we are] “in a place where the unexpected becomes expected, where radical change is more than a possibility. It is – contrary to all our expectations – a certainty.”
U S Department of Education Petition for Recognition: On Friday March 22 we received official notice that the Consortium’s eligibility petition was accepted. We have moved into the full review phase. The formal external review by the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) is tentatively scheduled to be reviewed at the Winter 2020, likely in December. The NACIQI meetings occur in Washington DC. The 18 NACIQI members are appointed in equal numbers by the US Senate, the US House, and the US Department of Education.
CHAS: Congratulations to the CHAS NP Residency Program, headquartered in Spokane WA, is now accredited for the full three-year period. CHAS was the first program to complete pre-accreditation and the first program to move from pre-accreditation to full accreditation. All within a 12-month period – impressive!
Site Visitor Training: The 2019 site visitor training class is half-way through its initial 5-month didactic course of monthly webinars, independent study, and team-based simulations. After completing the initial phase, the ten participants will move into the experiential phase of training and join a site visit as an observer. After that they will be eligible to serve as a ‘full-fledged’ site visitor within the next year. On behalf of the course faculty, we appreciate and recognize the impressive amount of dedication, effort, time, and collegiality required to complete this training.
Research Survey: Be sure to consider participating in the “Routes to Rural Readiness: Enhancing Clinical Training Experiences for Nurse Practitioner Practice in Rural Primary Care” survey if you are contacted. Rural PREP, the Collaborative for Rural Primary care Research, Education, and Practice (https://ruralprep.org/), is conducting this study to identify and describe the approaches of rural-oriented NP primary care education and training programs that are successful in facilitating the transition from education to rural practice. Program Directors from primary care NP education programs will be invited to participate.
